HOW DO you raise strong and confident daughters and sons respectful to women? By talking to them, according to actress Reese Witherspoon.
“It’s important to instill in them the idea that it’s very important to respect women, and for a woman to speak out to her partner [so that he] respects you,” Witherspoon said, speaking via phone patch from Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday.
The Oscar-winning actress was at the kick-off of the 16-city “Avon Believe World Tour,” a global effort underscoring the company’s heritage of empowering women. The event jumpstarted Avon’s 125th anniversary celebration.
Since 2007, Witherspoon has been Avon’s global ambassador and honorary chair of Avon Foundation, a charity that supports women, with special focus on breast cancer awareness and prevention of domestic violence.
“One of the main points we talk about at the Avon Foundation is education, talking about things,” she noted. “It’s important to begin speaking about these issues with your children before they’re in that age where they start to leave home and want to hang out with their peers. The best thing you can do as a mother is to talk to your kids about these issues, hopefully before they come up in their lives.”

As promised, I have added exclusive scans from the recent issue of Elle France that Miss Reese graced the cover of! In movie news, How Do You Know hits cinemas in the UK today! If you have a chance make sure you go and see it. I saw it today and I enjoyed it – it’s not my favourite movie of Reese’s, but it was a different kind of role for her which she played really well, and I loved seeing her alongside Paul Rudd again!

Ever the popular cover-girl, Reese has been featured in a few magazines recently, and thanks to some lovely people we now have scans! She was featured in the UK Sunday Times Style supplement a week or so ago, and Lorna has contributed scans from that. And she is on the cover of Swiss magazine SI Style, and Mia has sent us scans from that! Neither features new photos (in fact, they both use the same photoshoot, from 2007!), but the Sunday Times interview is new I believe. Thanks again to Lorna and Mia.

Opening Dec. 17, How Do You Know stars Reese Witherspoon as Lisa, a softball player whose athletic abilities have defined her entire life — until she’s cut from her team. Struggling to redefine herself, she starts a fling with Matty (Owen Wilson), a major league baseball pitcher known for playing the field. Lisa’s also involved with George (Paul Rudd), an honest businessman who may be heading to jail to protect his crooked financier of a father, Charles (Jack Nicholson).
How Do You Know may involve some complicated relationships, but the interiors are another story altogether. Beautifully designed and decorated, they do a lovely job of reflecting each character’s personality. Curious about the interiors? You’re in luck, because Sony Pictures recently shared photos from the three male characters’ apartments. Let’s take a tour of photos from Matty’s, Charles’s, and George’s homes.
Avon celebrates it’s 125th Anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion they are going on tour across the globe! Yesterday, our Reese attended their Avon World Tour event in Atlanta, where she and Avon CEO Andrea Jung cut their birthday cake, and announced some new intitiatives.
Reese wore an ivory coloured Giambattista Valli dress with Christian Louboutin heels for one part of the event, then changed into a lovely fitted blue dress!

Reese Witherspoon has revealed she only makes about one movie a year because she is not happy with the quality of roles available.
Reese Witherspoon says there aren’t enough “great movies” for her to do more than one a year.
The ‘How Do You Know’ star tries to strike a steady balance between the films she makes and her two children – Ava, 11, and seven-year-old Deacon, with former husband Ryan Phillippe – so tries to restrict the number of roles she takes on.
She said: “I try not to do more than one movie a year, just because there’s not that many great movies to do and also it’s hard for me to be away from my children for too long.
“It’s a big commitment, and then you have to sell the film, too. After that, I don’t have a lot of rules. I try not to put too much restriction on it because you never know what’s going to come into your life.”
Reese, 34, also claimed it is important for all of Hollywood’s A-list actresses to support each other.
She added to Total Film: “I think it’s important that we all support each other. And the better one woman does, the better all women do.
“The better Sarah Jessica Parker’s movie opens, the better it is for Julia Roberts and myself and all the girls coming up. It’s important that we all support each other.”
(I’m pretty sure these are old quotes, but it can’t help to be reminded of Reese’s wonderful down-to-earth-ness!)
Reese Witherspoon has confessed she has a “little bit of that over-achiever syndrome”.
The 34-year-old star has had a hugely successful Hollywood career so far, appearing in hit films such as Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde and Walk the Line. She also has her own production company called Type A Productions, and admits the name stems from her desire to push herself and be the best she can be.
“It’s a childhood nickname. My mother used to call me Little Miss Type A,” she replied when Total Film asked how she acquired the name for the business.
“I like to be organised, I like to push myself. I probably do have a little bit of that over-achiever syndrome.”
As well as being a successful film actress and producer, Reese is also a devoted mother to 11-year-old daughter Ava and seven-year-old son Deacon, her children with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe. The star believes she has instilled good manners in her children, something she considers fundamental in life.
“I’m strict with my kids, too. I believe in ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ and being kind and respecting your elders. I make them write thank you notes. It’s important. Those things were instilled in me and have really been helpful in my life,” added the actress.
Reese Witherspoon admits she had “a lot of flaws”. The ‘Water For Elephants’ actress has parts of herself that she doesn’t like, and despite her beauty and fame, insists she isn’t perfect.
When asked if she considers herself to have flaws, she replied: “How long do you have? It’s a long list. Shall I go alphabetically? A, annoying. B, belligerent… Yeah, I have a lot of flaws. There are a parts of myself I could do without.”
One of the things the 34-year-old beauty admits is a flaw is her inability to stop over thinking things, though she has learned to calm herself through exercise.
She explained to Total Film magazine: “I ruminate a lot. I’m always in my head, thinking and thinking. Sometimes that can be counterproductive, so when I do put on my running shoes and go run it helps.”
Despite admitting her constant thinking can be frustrating, the ‘How Do You Know’ actress it can be advantageous for helping her come up with ideas for her production company, Type A.
She added: “I’m kind of a daydreamer. I’ll come up with an idea and then I talk to my producing partners and we try and find the right writers or directors who are interested in doing the material.”
Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon has said that working with an elephant in her upcoming movie Water For Elephants was one of the best experiences of her career.
The Legally Blonde star loved working alongside the animal as it was both dangerous and challenging, Contactmusic reported.
“It was one of the best experiences of my career. I worked with her for three months just training. I had to get into shape – I had no harness, no safety equipment, nothing.”
“It was literally just me and the elephant and I had to climb onto her. She’s 10 feet tall and over 900lbs, and it was this exercise in trust. It’s a really beautiful thing where you learn to communicate with a creature non-verbally. She’s the big star of the movie,” Witherspoon said.
The film sees the actress essaying the role of a circus performer whose horse dies, putting her act in jeopardy, until her husband buys her an elephant.
The 34-year-old actress added that the giant creature helps bring her character closer to co-star Robert Pattinson in the film.
“Robert Pattinson’s character comes in and he’s a vet and we end up being very interested in each other. It’s very romantic and beautiful,” she added.
Reese Witherspoon may be an Oscar-winner, but she insists her worldwide success hasn’t made her extravagant. Instead, she has kept the principles of her frugal upbringing in New Orleans, Louisiana.
She explained: “I’m pretty good with money. I’m really thrifty. I grew up in a really thrifty family so i don’t spend a lot of money on things that are frivolous.
“I have a house, two cars, I have a regular life.”
While she says she leads a “regular life,” 34-year-old Reese — who recently announced her engagement to Hollywood agent Jim Toth — recently splashed out on a barn for the pets she keeps with her children.
She said: “I’m building a barn. I think it’s cool. I really do have animal friends, I have donkeys, I have goats, I have pigs.
“I wanted the donkeys to be called Honky Tonk and Badonkadonk but the kids weren’t so into it.
“Do I milk them? No. The goats are kind of worthless. They’re pretty nasty and don’t do anything. But I have chickens and they provide eggs.”
