You probably didn’t need an excuse to watch “Water for Elephants” again (you did watch it this weekend right?), but we’re going to go ahead and give you one anyway. You see, the movie is full of amazing outfits (Reese Witherspoon wears some of our favorites), but there’s so much more to each look than meets the eye. We spoke to costume designer Jacqueline West to get the scoop on the real meaning behind the styles. If you haven’t seen the film yet, proceed with caution as there are some SPOILERS ahead. If you have, go ahead and indulge in the descriptions below.
The White Dress: One of Reese’s softer looks in the film. The Meaning: “The first time we see her she’s in a white dress. That’s when she’s still hopeful of becoming this famous, famous circus act and her marriage is still intact with August, even though he’s difficult in that scene…she’s still very hopeful.”
The Red Dress: A sultry but fitted gown that drapes Reese perfectly. The Meaning: “The red dress I thought was a great symbol of her infatuation with Rob, the first time that they danced in the speakeasy and they kiss in the alley, and I thought that’s red for amore.”
The Black Dress: A long, elegant number that reveals her back. Jacqueline told us it had to be low in the front to display the necklace August eventually rips off. The Meaning: “The black dress for when she jumps off the train with him and she gets in the fight and August rips her necklace off. That’s when things become darker and scary and she’s really, you know, thrown almost into Rob’s arms for survival and safety, aside from being in love with him.”
In essence, the colors Jacqueline chose for Reese told her character’s story without actually saying a word. Now, do you see what we mean about wanting to watch it again with all this in mind?
The Water For Elephants press tour has now moved to Europe, and last night Reese and co attended a premiere for the movie in Paris! Reese looked absolutely gorgeous in a little red Giambiattista Valli one shoulder dress, with Cartier earrings.
Over 100 HQ photos have been added to the Gallery, and you can scroll on down this post to find some videos of fan-filmed footage from the event.
I hope Reese enjoyed watching the ceremony today then!
Reese Witherspoon yesterday (April 21st) admitted she is more excited about the Royal wedding than she was about her own nuptials.
The 35-year-old actress joked that she was disappointed she hadn’t received an invitation and planned to get up in the early hours of the morning to watch the live event.
‘My mother and I watched Princess Diana’s wedding. I think I was five and my mother sobbed through the whole thing,’ she told US chat show host Ellen DeGeneres.
‘I’m trying to force my daughter to watch it with me and she’s like ‘why?’
‘I think there’s so much happening in the world – a lot of it is hard for a lot of people.
‘It’s just this beautiful moment between two people and I think everybody needs a little break to say ‘Oh there’s happiness’.’
Witherspoon, who stars alongside Robert Pattinson in new movie Water For Elephants, wed talent agent Jim Toth in Ojai, California, last month.
The mother-of-two said she loved every minute of her big day, despite not being fond of being the centre of attention.
‘I like going to parties. I just don’t like it when it’s about me,’ she told Ellen.
Managed to get in a quick post with a new TV appearance, despite not having a proper computer to use! Reese was on Regis & Kelly the other day, and you watch the hilarious interview below!
Just a reminder that I am still without a computer at the moment, but updates will continue asap when I get the computer back. Lots to look forward to, please be patient!
Didn’t Reese looks incredible at the Water For Elephants premiere last night? Definitely one of my favourite looks from her in a while. Unfortunately I am not able to update the site with photos today because of some on-going, seemingly unsolveable computer problems. I am so sorry about this, Reese fans! I wish I was able to update with everything but until things are fixed I can’t. I’m hoping everything will be sorted by the end of this week, and I’ll keep you posted on our Twitter page.
In the meantime though, you can watch Reese’s appearance on Good Morning America earlier today below. I’ll add screencaps as soon as I am able to update again.
Stay tuned Reese fans, I’ll have some fantastic updates for you very soon!

Watch it below, and check back here at Glamour Reese tomorrow for full coverage from the event. The premiere is going to be an exciting event, and I can’t wait to see what Reese wears!
Reese Witherspoon gets a little disordered In ‘Water for Elephants,’ the ordered actress worked with unpredictable animals, including a horse lying on her thigh as she powered through lines.
As far as tightly wound actresses go, Reese Witherspoon tops the list. She insists upon a strict sense of order in her life. Her production company is called Type A, a moniker her latest costar, Robert Pattinson, says fits her strong sense of self perfectly. And even when she appears to be having a spontaneous moment, lamenting that her well-orchestrated career built around an avoidance of bikinis has been breached by her current role as a leotard-clad circus performer, it turns out the line is a well-rehearsed quip that’s been repeated, practically on a loop, to scores of media outlets.
Which makes it all the more confounding that the 35-year old actress would subject herself to the unpredictable behaviors of circus animals such as the nearly 9-ton elephant Tai and a slew of trick horses when she shot the adaptation of the Depression-era romance “Water for Elephants.”
“I have anxiety. I get nervous, and I shake,” Witherspoon says. The night before shooting with the elephant, “I didn’t sleep, and I literally shook and shook and shook,” she says, feigning relaxation in a hotel room chair, still perfectly coiffed in a gray dress and 3-inch heels after a long day of enchanting the international press corps. “But the performances with the elephant were really magical for me. Against my better instincts I decided to ride the elephant with no harness, with no safety equipment. It was pretty great.”
Could it be that Witherspoon is finally loosening up? The native Southerner seems to be doing a lot of leaping without a protective net lately. After ending her eight-year marriage to actor Ryan Phillippe in 2007, she recently began a new chapter in her life, tying the knot with Jim Toth, an agent who represents the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson at CAA where Witherspoon is also repped, in a private wedding ceremony just a week before embarking on a publicity tour for “Elephants,” which opens Friday.

Elle:"Is that low-viscosity rayon? With a half-loop top stitching on the hem?
Boutique Saleswoman:"Of course. It's one of a kind.
Elle:"It's impossible to use a half-loop stitching on low-viscosity rayon. It would snag the fabric. And you didn't just get it in - I saw it in the June Vogue a year ago. So if you're trying to sell it to me for full price, you've picked the wrong girl.
