US direct-sales company Avon is teaming up with global fashion house Emanuel Ungaro to launch two new signature fragrances, one for women and one for men. U by Ungaro for Her and U by Ungaro for Him are slated to launch globally starting this August, initially in the US. The new scents will appear in Avon’s brochure, which more than five million Avon representatives distribute throughout the world. The brand’s ambassador, American actress Reese Witherspoon, will feature in global print and television ads for the two fragrances.
Both were created by noses at International Flowers and Fragrances (IFF). The women’s juice is a fresh, woody floral featuring top notes of bergamot blossom, wet freesia and pepper blossom, among others, with a base note that blends iris, sandalwood and musk. The men’s scent is a woody aromatic watery blend that combines top notes of green mandarin leaf, ruby red grapefruit and pomegranate with middle notes of cardamom, cedarleaf and immortal flower. The base note is composed of vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood, tonka bean and Peru balsam.
Avon teamed with French fashion heavyweight Christian Lacroix for the creation of a signature fragrance line last spring, resulting in what the beauty brand says was its most successful launch to date. Selective fragrances for the Ungaro brand are manufactured by Italian company Ferragamo Parfums.

Reese Witherspoon will voice Susan Murphy aka Ginormica in the upcoming Monsters vs. Aliens movie. Monsters vs. Aliens is directed by Rob Letterman (who directed Shark Tale) and Conrad Vernon (who directed Shrek 2), two very experienced DreamWorks team members. The film hits theaters on March 27, 2009.
Monsters vs. Aliens is a throwback to those B-movie glory days of the ’50s when Martians invaded our backyards and rubber monsters stalked the Earth.
But the DreamsWorks sci-fi spoof, landing March 27, 2009, also transforms a once-tacky Ike-era gimmick into an eye-popping 21st-century experience as the first computer-animated feature to be shot in 3-D.
Studios such as Disney have dimensionalized CGI films, but only after a non-3-D version was made.
DreamWorks, which will preview Monsters for ShoWest exhibitors in Las Vegas today, is commit- ted to doing all its animated releases directly in 3-D from now on. “This isn’t our father’s 3-D,” says the studio’s animation chief, Jeffrey Katzenberg. Though it still relies on funny glasses, “the digital projection puts a perfect image on the screen. There is no ghosting, no eye strain or nausea.”

She might be a tad shy about cracking the whip on set but Reese Witherspoon is every bit the shot-caller.
“I hate being in charge, so I’d say I’m more of a collaborator,” laughs the producer and co-star of the independent film “Penelope,” opening February 29.
“I don’t want to be the one to tell (the crew) that they have to stay for two extra hours or come in at 6 o’clock in the morning.”
Witherspoon’s production company, Type A Films, grossed $125 million worldwide five years ago with its first project, “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde.” Now Witherspoon, 31, is back in the producer’s chair with the magical love story “Penelope.”
“When my producing partner, Jennifer Simpson, brought me the script, I just loved the idea,” she remembers.
“There’s a great girl at the centre of the story who’s sassy and funny and smart and opinionated, yet she has obstacles to overcome.”

Check out this funny reportage from E! Online:
In a movie, people. She wants to shoot someone…in a movie.
See, the lack of strong roles for women in Hollywood was just one of the subjects that got Reese Witherspoon all revved up when talking to us this weekend about the movie she produced and appears in, Penelope.
It’s a darling fairy tale about a girl (Christina Ricci) with a pig nose. And Reese wanted Christina from the get-go—the two grew up together on the audition circuit. Aw! (And just a quick side note: Things she did not discuss with us include (a) the passing of Heath Ledger and (b) the man she is often photographed with, Jake Gyllenhaal.)
So, oh well, back to shooting people.
Here’s what she said about shoot-’em-up movies wherein the leading man gets to take down the bad guy. “Why does the guy get to shoot him? I want the girl to shoot him!” she said, laughing intermittently. “I love watching Angelina Jolie kick ass in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and I can’t wait to see her in Wanted. I would love to shoot someone. In the knee cap or something, just to stop them!”
