Yesterday Reese made an appearance on The Today Show, she was there to discuss her partnering with Avon and the new Women’s Empowerment Bracelet. A video download and captures have been added, as well as some snaps of her arriving outside the studio.
As we just mentioned in the previous update, Avon is selling Women’s Empowerment Bracelets online for $3 (£1.50) each. All 100% of the net proceeds are donated to the Avon Empowerment Fund to end violence against women. At least one in three women have been abused around the world.

“As honorary chair of the Avon Foundation, I’m very excited to introduce Avon’s first global charity product designed to save and improve women’s lives worldwide.
Purchase the Women’s Empowerment Bracelet for yourself and your friends. It’s a symbol of unity that represents a future without limitations for all women. It represents everything I love about this company.
Show your support, show your solidarity, show off your bracelet.”
As announced yesterday, Reese has launched a global United Nations campaign to end violence against women. The actress kicked off the beauty company’s new partnership with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) earlier today. Avon is selling Women’s Empowerment Bracelets online for $3 (£1.50) each to benefit UNIFEM.
“Every purchase of the bracelet will help empower women 100 per cent of the profits will go directly to the Avon Empowerment Fund to support UNIFEM in their work to end violence against women. I hope to see this bracelet on the wrists of women all around the world as a sign of solidarity and hope that one day every woman will be empowered and live a life free from violence.” – Reese Witherspoon

Avon and UNIFEM Announce Partnership to End Violence against Women and Launch of the Women’s Empowerment Bracelet
WHAT: The Global Summit for a Better Tomorrow — the keystone in a series of Avon initiatives to raise awareness of International Women’s Day — takes place at the United Nations on Tuesday, March 4th. The Summit is held together with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), in celebration of International Women’s Day, which will be recognized globally on March 8, 2008. It is a holiday whose history can be traced back 150 years and is celebrated in countries all over the world.
At a UN press conference prior to the Summit, Avon and UNIFEM will announce a new public-private partnership that represents the largest corporate one-year grant made to the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women.
MORE: Avon Global Ambassador Reese Witherspoon is unveiling the company’s first global fundraising product, the Women’s Empowerment Bracelet. The bracelet will sell for US$3 each and all net profits will be donated to the Avon Empowerment Fund. In 2008, the Avon Foundation will match the first US$500,000 in bracelet sales for a total donation of US$1 million to the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women. These resources will bolster critical work to prevent and reduce the prevalence of violence against women. Starting March 4, consumers can purchase the bracelets by going online at http://www.avon.com.
B-ROLL: Interviews with Reese Witherspoon, Suze Orman, Andrea Jung (Avon Products, Inc. Chairman and CEO) and Joanne Sandler (UNIFEM Executive Director a.i.), Reese Witherspoon Empowerment Bracelet announcement, Andrea Jung announcement of the Empowerment Fund, and additional highlights.
Reese Witherspoon, among many other celebrities (including Walk the Line co-star Joaquin Phoenix), is involved in a broadcast public service announcement (PSA), calling attention to the need for affordable, quality health care for all Americans.
Hollywood’s leading nonprofit organizations, the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) and the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF), have joined the “Divided We Fail” national movement led by AARP to bring attention to the domestic issues that worry Americans most: health care and financial security. Launching today, this unprecedented three-year collaboration between the entertainment world and the nation’s largest advocacy group seeks bipartisan cooperation in finding solutions.
“We are thrilled to have EIF and MPTF join us,” said Bill Novelli, CEO of AARP. “This nation’s health care and financial security crisis is about to explode: 47 million Americans have no health insurance, and more middle-class people are filing for bankruptcy because of health care-related expenses than for any other reason. We need to build a national conversation around these issues, and the entertainment industry is uniquely suited to help us do that,” he said. “We must get everyone — individuals, companies, and policymakers — involved, regardless of their political persuasion. Only then will we be able to address these very serious challenges successfully.”
