The Hollywood Reporter have a new still from The Devil’s Knot, showing Reese and Alessandro Nivola (I think?) in a worried embrace.
There is also a new Facebook page for the film, which teases that they are expecting to premiere the movie at the Toronto Film Festival in September!
Cannes: Reese Witherspoon Stars in ‘Devil’s Knot’
With the Cannes Film Festival nearing the finishing stretch, the independent film business is turning its attention to the fall festival circuit. One title that’s likely to make an appearance is Atom Egoyan’s much-anticipated Devil’s Knot, loosely based on Mara Leveritt’s 2002 nonfiction book about the infamous West Memphis Three case.
From Worldview Entertainment, the crime thriller stars Reese Witherspoon as Pam Hobbs, the mother of Steve Branch, one of the three children savagely murdered in Arkansas in 1993. Alessandro Nivola plays Terry Hobbs, her husband and Steve’s stepfather. Colin Firth also stars.
The notorious case sparked national headlines when Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr. were convicted and sentenced to life in prison. After new forensic evidence was put forth and the case became a cause celebre, the three were released after serving 18 years.
CAA is selling North American rights to Devil’s Knot, while The Weinstein Co. is handling international sales. Producers are Elizabeth Fowler, Richard Saperstein, Clark Peterson and Worldview CEO Christopher Woodrow. Worldview’s Molly Conners, Sarah Johnson Redlich, Maria Cestone and Hoyt David Morgan are executive producing.

The first poster and stills for The Devil’s Knot were released by the films production company during the American Film Market back in November. I am only now reading about this – sorry! The still featuring Reese is a close-up shot of her looking forelorn, and you can view it in our Gallery. See the poster and the still of Colin Firth at Bloody Disgusting.
I’ve also come across a journalist’s diary from the time he spent on the set, and you can read his 4 entries here.
I’ve added additional HQ photos from the first two days of Devil’s Knot filming that we had pictures from.
Reese has been snapped at work on the film again since then, although unfortuntely we are unable to post the photos here So instead I have some links for you: see Reese on set of Devil’s Knot on June 30th here, here and here; and on the set on July 2nd here, here and here. SocialiteLife have some pics from both days here.

“True Blood” star Stephen Moyer has joined the cast of Atom Egoyan’s Devil’s Knot, Deadline reports. He joins Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Alessandro Nivola, Kris Polaha, Collette Wolfe, Justin Castor and Kevin Durand in the narrative take on the West Memphis Three.
Released from prison earlier this year after nearly two decades, Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, Jr. and Jason Baldwin were convicted of the murder of three eight-year-old boys in 1993. Their trial was the subject of the Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky documentary, Paradise Lost that brought national media attention to the trial and its outcome.
Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter, Chloe) is basing his take off the book “Devil’s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three” by Mara Leveritt.
In the narrative version, Witherspoon will play Pam Hobbs, the mother of one of the original victims while Firth will star as Ron Lax, a private investigator called in for the case. Moyer will play prosecutor John Fogelman.

Reese is now in Atlanta, and has been filming her first scenes for Devil’s Knot! She was spotted on set on Monday and Tuesday of this week, and I’m pretty sure the guy with her on June 25th is Alessandro Nivola, who will be playing her husband. Interestingly, in a new interview director Atom Egoyan said his film will focus on the mother of one of the victims – that’s Reese’s character Pam Hobbs – and the private investigator for the suspects’ defense team (Colin Firth), so it sounds like Reese’s part will be big.
Check out the first photos from the set in our Gallery, and scroll on down this post for that interview with Egoyam plus a snippet about Reese’s time in Atlanta so far.

‘Devil’s Knot’ Adds Duo To Cast
June 25th 2012
Robert Baker and Brian Howe are the latest additions to the cast of Devil’s Knot. The duo joins Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon and Alessandro Nivola in the Atom Egoyan-directed film about the wrongly accused and imprisoned West Memphis 3. Best known as Grey’s Anatomy’s Dr. Charles Percy, Baker will play Detective Bryan Ridge, one of the first on the scene of the triple homicide at the heart of the case. Baker, who also appeared in Leatherheads with George Clooney, will be seen in Disney’s upcoming The Lone Ranger. Howe, who was in Gran Torino, plays Detective McDonough, a California cop who gets partially drawn into the case while chasing down a lead. Matt Letscher, The Ringer regular Kris Polaha, Collette Wolfe, The Secret Life Of The American Teenager’s Kristopher Higgins and The Killing’s Mireille Enos also are in the film. Egoyan is working with Paul Boardman on a rewrite of the script. The film is based on the 2003 book Devil’s Knot: The True Story Of The West Memphis Three by investigative reporter Mara Leveritt. Baker is repped by The Kohner Agency and KLWGN Entertainment. Howe also is repped by Kohner.

The previously announced ‘An Evening With Reese Witherspoon Hosted By The Gene Siskel Film Center’ took place in Chicago last night, and Reese accepted her award looking chic in a little navy blue dress. Election director Alexander Payne presented the award to her, and Reese told reporters before that he “was a big champion for me early on, and said, ‘That’s the girl I want in my movie,’ so I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for him. And we’ve subsequently become very close friends.”
Reese gave an interview to the Chicago Sun Times for the event, and you can read that below. Over 50 photos from this event – most of which are HQ – have been added to our Gallery for you!
Congratulations to Reese on this wonderful honour!

Several new cast members have been announced for The Devil’s Knot recently, including Reese’s Best Laid Plans co-star Alessandro Nivola. I thought they were great together in that film and so am excited to see them work together again.
It is also reported that the film will start shooting in Atlanta on June 24th.
Alessandro Nivola Plays Key Role In West Memphis 3 Film ‘Devil’s Knot’
June 11th
Alessandro Nivola has been tapped to star opposite Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth in Devil’s Knot, the Atom Egoyan-directed drama about the conviction of the West Memphis 3, a trio falsely accused of a triple homicide in a controversial trial that presented no physical evidence.
Nivola will play Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of the young victims. It’s a pivotal role in the film; Hobbs is a controversial figure who has consistently denied any role in the murders but has come under suspicion in the 20 years since the crime was committed. He has never been charged and evidence against him is inconclusive. His relationship with his wife Pam Hobbs (Witherspoon) forms the backbone of the story.
Nivola will next be seen in Sally Potter’s untitled film, which stars Elle Fanning and Annette Bening. He’s repped by CAA and Management 360.

Upon it’s release sometime next year, Devil’s Knot will be distributed in Germany by Senator Film:
Senator Film is stocking up on Gallic laffers following its success with “The Intouchables” while also betting on high-profile English-language films.
At the Cannes Film Market, the Berlin-based distrib nabbed Atom Egoyan’s thriller “Devil’s Knot,” starring Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon, and Daniel Benmayor’s parkour actioner “Tracers,” with Taylor Lautner.
- Variety
The Killing star Mireille Enos has joined Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth in Devil’s Knot, the Atom Egoyan-directed drama about the West Memphis 3. Enos will play Vicki Hutcheson, the mother of an 8-year-old boy who lives in a run-down house in West Memphis. She becomes an important witness in the murder trial of Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley for the killing of three 8-year-old boys found hog-tied in a drainage ditch. Hutcheson, it becomes apparent to investigators, could be the only link between Echols and Misskelley.
As Deadline revealed just after the West Memphis 3 murder defendants were released from prison last summer, The Sweet Hereafter and Chloe director Egoyan came aboard to direct a script that was originally written by Scott Derrickson and Paul Boardman, the team behind The Exorcism Of Emily Rose.
