The first two clips from Reese’s upcoming movie Mud have been released online today, in anticipation of it’s premiere at Cannes later this month. Unfortunately neither of them feature Reese, but they give us a good look at Mud and the two kids. I really like the feel of the movie that we get from these two clips, and I’m getting more excited to see more about it!
HitFix.com have an interesting preview of the movie’s chances at Cannes, which is worth a read.
RopeOfSilicon gives us the lowdown on the plot, and clips are embedded below:
McConaughey stars as the title character as it explores his friendship with a 14-year-old boy named Ellis (Tye Sheridan). The two first meet when Ellis and has best friend are exploring the nearby Mississippi river and discover a deserted island where they encounter Mud, a dirty, desperate yet oddly compelling stranger.
Mud is on the run for a crime of passion, and bounty hunters are closing in on him. Moved by the romantic notion of his story and intrigued by the promise of a great adventure, the boys conspire to aid Mud in his escape and reunite him with the love of his life, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon).
Walter Salles’ On the Road, Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy and Michael Haneke’s Amour will join Rust and Bone by Jacques Audiard and David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis for a trip to the 65th annual Cannes Film Festival.
Also screening in the competition are Holy Motors by Leos Carax, The Angels’ Share by Ken Loach, John Hillcoat’s Lawless, which stars Shia LaBoeuf, Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman alongside Jessica Chastain in a Prohibition-era drama, and more U.S. titles such as Jeff Nichols’ Mud and Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly with Brad Pitt and Ray Liotta. All in all, U.S. filmmakers will have a strong presence on the Croisette this year.
President Gilles Jacob and artistic director Thierry Fremaux announced the official selection for the May 16-27 festival at a press conference in Paris late Thursday morning.
While the 2011 competition lineup was light on U.S. directors and star power, the Cannes team certainly made up for it this year. “American cinema has come back relatively en force,” Fremaux said.
Pitt, Robert Pattinson, Nicole Kidman and Marion Cotillard and Matthew McConaughey — who both have multiple projects in Cannes — will add glam to the fest as they make their way down the world’s most famous cinema catwalk.
Back when she was in Rio earlier in the month, Reese gave an interview to a media website/TV show called Omelete. They talked about a variety of things including where Reese keeps her Oscar, whether she wants to go back to Stanford to study, her new film Mud, and more. Watch it below…
Dumas, Ark. seldom gets attention in national news, but when two A-List celebrities come into town, Arkansas gets its name on the map. When Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey came to town, people were wondering if the world was coming to an end. Luckily, it’s not, and the two were in town to shoot a movie called “Mud.”
Jeff Nichols, a native award-winning Arkansan, brings his next feature to Southeast Arkansas. The movie was filmed in the areas of Dumas, Dewitt and Stuttgart.
The cast and crew only shot in Arkansas for two weeks, but that was enough time to get people buzzing about “Mud.”
Area residents had the opportunity to participate in the film as extras and stand-ins. They needed residents to play high school teens. The movie asked people who were teenagers between 16 and 20 years old to participate in the movie as extras.
Dumas was thrilled to hear that a movie was to be filmed featuring parts of the town, especially one starring Reese Witherspoon.
The financial benefits defiantly outweighed the inconvenience in the street closings and local business closings. Multiple businesses were paid for the use of their store fronts, parking lots and the entirety of buildings.
Reese started filming her new movie Mud in Arkansas last month, and was snapped all in blue on the set. I’ve added photos from that day on set to our Gallery.
You can also find the first still from the movie – of Matthew McConaughey who plays Mud – at EmpireOnline.com. They have some interesting quotes from Matthew about the movie, which he describes as a “summer-of-love fairytale” whilst also comparing the script to the classic coming-of-age tale Stand By Me.
These new photos certainly make me a lot more excited for this movie now – what do you think?
Arkansas is getting some star power as Mud begins filming in the state this week.
Mathew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Tye Sheridan, Sam Shepard, Michael Shannon and Sarah Paulson have all signed on to star in the movie, which is being directed by Jeff Nichols.
The coming-of-age story follows a charismatic fugitive and his friendship with a 14-year old boy who helps him escape from the law in order to reunite with his soul mate.
Locals are already buzzing about the production as the movie’s offices have been set up in Stuttgart, at the former Clary Elementary building, located at 107 E. Superior St, and today, Highway 65 in Dumas was closed for filming.
“Everyone’s really excited about it, it’s been really great for the town,” said Stephen Bell, director of the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce.
Witherspoon was even spotted shopping at the Dollar General in Dumas this week!
The movie is expected to continue filming in Arkansas through next month. If you are interested in being an extra in the film, you can apply here. If you spot Mud filming in Arkansas, let us know about it at olv@onlocationvacations.com!
Stage and screen actors Michael Shannon, Sam Shepard, Sarah Paulson and Paul Sparks have been cast in Jeff Nichols’ upcoming film, “Mud,” according to Deadline.com.
The drama, written and directed by Nichols, will star Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Tye Sheridan. Also in the cast are Ray McKinnon and Joe Don Baker.
“Mud,” which recently began production in Arkansas, centers on two 14-year-old boys who encounter a mysterious fugitive in hiding, Mud. The boys are determined to help him escape from the law and reunite with the love of his life, played by Witherspoon.
The film is produced by Sarah Green, Lisa Maria Falcone and Aaron Ryder. Glen Basner is executive producer.
Shannon has been seen on Broadway in Ambassador and Butterflies Are Free. Paulson has been seen in Collected Stories and The Glass Menagerie, and Sparks’ Broadway credits include Hedda Gabler and Take Me Out.
Shepard, who has also appeared on stage, has written the Tony Award-nominated plays True West and Buried Child.
Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon are in discussions to star in “Mud,” Everest Entertainment announced Friday.
Everest is financing the movie, which also stars “One Tree Hill” and “The Tree of Life’s” Tye Sheridan.
“Mud” “is the powerful, redemptive tale of a charismatic fugitive named Mud and his unlikely friendship with 14-year-old Ellis. Ellis is determined to help his new friend escape from both the law and some very serious bounty hunters in order to reunite Mud with his soul mate, Juniper.”
McConaughey would play Mud, Sheridan would play Elllis and Witherspoon would play Juniper.
Jeff Nichols (“Take Shelter”) wrote the movie and will direct.
Everest is fully financing. The company’s Lisa Marie Falcone is producing with Sarah Green — who also produced “The Tree of Life.” FilmNation Entertainment’s Aaron Ryder also is producing.
“Jeff Nichols has written a beautiful story with rich characters learning valuable lessons through life-changing circumstances,” Falcone said in a statement.
