Reese Witherspoon Talks ‘Wild’ New Role
Fans get to see another side of Reese Witherspoon in her new film Wild, and she opened up about the role with ET.
Reese plays the real-life Cheryl Strayed, whose bestselling memoir of the same name details the brutal solo hike Cheryl took at the age of 26 along the Pacific Crest Trail. In the movie, the character goes nude and does heroin. Reese told us what she hopes her 15-year-old daughter Ava and 11-year-old son Deacon take away from the movie.
“If they can see this film and feel, both my daughter and my son, that they don’t need to be embarrassed or ashamed of themselves and that they’re going to be great, no matter what on their life, I think that’s a great thing to see in a film,” said Reese.
In fact, it was Cheryl’s candid approach to telling her story left an impression on Reese and drew her to playing a part so different from anything she’s ever done before.
“Part of the book that really struck me as an important part of the story was how Cheryl addressed her own sexuality,” said Reese. “She not only described these experiences but she also said, I’m not going to feel bad about them.”
The Oscar winner was fiercely committed to the role. Cheryl was even on the set to help Reese with authenticity.
“The director [Dallas Buyers Club helmer Jean-Marc Vallee] would often times say cut, and he’d look at me and say, ‘What do you think?’, and I said, ‘I think Reese is not wearing a heavy pack,'” Cheryl said with a laugh.
Reese stopped by Good Morning America earlier this week to promote Wild. The HQ episode stills and photos outside the GMA studios in New York have been added in our gallery and her interview can be watched below:

The trailer for Reese’s new movie Inherent Vice was released recently and you can watch it below. Read the official synopsis and cast/crew details below, and find the official site at www.inherentvicemovie.com
“Inherent Vice,” is the seventh feature from Paul Thomas Anderson and the first ever film adaption of a Thomas Pynchon novel.
When private eye Doc Sportello’s ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin…well, easy for her to say.
It’s the tail end of the psychedelic `60s and paranoia is running the day and Doc knows that “love” is another of those words going around at the moment, like “trip” or “groovy,” that’s being way too overused—except this one usually leads to trouble.
With a cast of characters that includes surfers, hustlers, dopers and rockers, a murderous loan shark, LAPD Detectives, a tenor sax player working undercover, and a mysterious entity known as the Golden Fang, which may only be a tax dodge set up by some dentists… Part surf noir, part psychedelic romp—all Thomas Pynchon.
In Wild, director Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyers Club), Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line) and Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Nick Hornby (An Education) bring bestselling author Cheryl Strayed’s extraordinary adventure to the screen. After years of reckless behavior, a heroin addiction and the destruction of her marriage, Strayed makes a rash decision. Haunted by memories of her mother Bobbi (Academy Award nominee Laura Dern) and with absolutely no experience, she sets out to hike more than a thousand miles on the Pacific Crest Trail all on her own. WILD powerfully reveals her terrors and pleasures as she forges ahead on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.
Reese Witherspoon gets her African “s” countries mixed up in the first trailer for “The Good Lie.”
The Oscar winner plays a tough-as-nails woman who takes in three Sudanese refugees (she asks whether they’re from Somalia or Senegal) to help them get a fresh start in the U.S.
“House of Cards” alum Corey Stoll, Sudanese actors Arnold Oceng, Ger Duany and Emmanuel Jal, and newcomer Nyakuoth Weil, some of whom were children of war in real life, also star in director Philippe Falardeau’s pic.
Margaret Nagle started writing this Blacklist screenplay 10 years ago. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and “Blind Side” EP Molly Smith are producing.
Alcon Entertainment will release the pic via Warner Bros. on October 3. It was originally slated for September 10.
The first trailer for Gone Girl, the highly anticipated new movie directed by David Fincher and produced by Reese, was released earlier this week, and you can watch it below.
