Director James L. Brooks has a new film out; a romantic comedy called How do You Know.
It stars top names Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Jack Nicholson and Paul Rudd. But is that going to guarantee that this big budget romantic comedy flies at the box office?
It is a risky investment, as Talking Movies’ Tom Brook explains.
The official theatrical trailer for Water For Elephants has been released! Watch it below, and/or head on over to Apple.com to view it in HD. Screencaps will be added to our Gallery asap.

Reese Witherspoon: ‘How Do You Know’ When You’re Not In Love?
Reese Witherspoon’s upcoming movie poses the question “How Do You Know” when you’re in love, but Access’ Tony Potts asks how do you know when you’re not in love? Also, Reese tells Tony she had a “good time” working with co-stars Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson. Plus, how did Reese get a black eye while preparing for the movie?
When she’s not working, Reese Witherspoon is a full-time dedicated mom to her two kids, daughter Ava, 11, and son Deacon, 7. And although plenty of kids would think having Witherspoon as their mom would be considered cool, the 34-year-old recently revealed to MTV News while promoting her upcoming film “How Do You Know” that it’s the other way around: Her kids are the cool ones.
“They’re into the White Stripes right now. They’re both learning to play the electric guitar, and it’s kind of awesome,” she said. “They’re playing ‘Seven Nation Army’ around the house.”
An 11-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy into the White Stripes? We have to agree, she has cool kids.
“That’s the thing too: Having kids that grow up in L.A., the sophistication level is totally different,” she explained. “They are only into songwriters who write their own music, and I’m like, ‘Wow, I was not that sophisticated as a child.’ ”
Witherspoon once told Parents magazine that her kids with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe keep her grounded. “Realizing you’re not anything special to the kids is always a great sort of reminder that you’re just a regular person,” she said. “A regular embarrassing old mom. They know what I do for a living — that I’m an actress — but they haven’t seen any of my movies. Yet.”
Speaking of being embarrassing, Witherspoon said her daughter once asked her not to embarrass her at a Carrie Underwood concert. “She said, ‘Mom I really appreciate you taking me to the concert, but will you please not embarrass me in front of Carrie Underwood by singing because she’s a real singer and you’re just, like, a movie singer.’ ”
Reese Witherspoon joined co-stars Owen Wilson, Jack Nicholson and Paul Rudd in Westwood, Calif., for the premiere of their new romantic comedy, “How Do You Know” – but how did Reese and Paul react to a reunion reminder that Access’ Tony Potts had for them from back in the day?
The cast of ‘How Do You Know’ sure is packed with A-List stars; it features everyone Owen Wilson to Paul Rudd to Reese Witherspoon.
The movie, in theaters this Friday, is about Lisa, a young woman (Witherspoon) who must choose between two men — the charismatic but clueless Matty (Wilson) and the charming but flustered (George). The only catch: Lisa and George meet under the worst of circumstances, a premise that director James L. Brooks says was the inspiration for the film.
Moviefone talked to the three stars of the movie, along with actress Kathryn Hahn and director Brooks, last week about love, bad first impressions, dating faux and the ultimate question: How do you know?
Stars Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and the usually elusive Jack Nicholson joined “Extra” on the red carpet at the L.A. premiere of their comedy, “How Do You Know.” Check it out!
Getting to ‘Know’ Reese Witherspoon Witherspoon plays struggling athlete caught in love triangle in new comedy
Reese Witherspoon steps out of her comfort zone for her newest comedy, “How Do You Know,” opening Friday.
In this film from James L. Brooks (“Terms of Endearment,” “As Good as It Gets”), Witherspoon, 34, plays Lisa, a fading softball champion who juggles two suitors (Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd). The role takes her leagues away from the lovably perky Elle Woods of her “Legally Blonde” hits.
“The biggest challenge for me was that she’s not verbal, and I’m used to playing really talkative characters, women that speak about their relationships and talk about love and dynamics and boys with their girlfriends,” the Oscar-winning actress (“Walk the Line”) told reporters recently in New York.
“She’s like, ‘Shut up. I don’t want to talk to you right now. I have to go.’ That was a new character for me.”
But true, she discovered, for the female athletes she met.
Changing the subject from How Do You Know to Water For Elephants for a few minutes, news has emerged that the first official teaser trailer for Water For Elephants will debut in cinemas this Friday before How Do You Know. Entertainment Tonight will show a teaser tonight, and last night showed a teaser of the teaser…
Fans have seen Jack Nicholson play everything from a retired astronaut in ‘Terms of Endearment’ to a raging alcoholic in ‘The Shining,’ but in his new movie ‘How Do You Know’ Jack plays a character that causes the actor to reveal a softer side of himself that audiences aren’t necessarily used to.
‘How Do You Know’ follows Lisa (Reese Witherspoon) a young woman caught in between two men: George (Paul Rudd), a businessman, and Matty (Owen Wilson), a professional baseball player.
Jack plays Paul’s father in the movie, who showers his son in kisses. The Oscar winner tried to describe how he felt locking lips with Paul.
“I kissed him so many times,” said Jack, at the Hollywood premiere on Monday. “I had all kinds of emotions.”
Paul called his smooch scenes with Jack an experience he’ll never forget.
“I think I kissed him in every scene,” said Paul. “I think that might be a record for me.”
Owen savored his role as a man who doesn’t hold himself to social conventions.
“He’s one of these guys who doesn’t really have a filter,” said Owen. “He just kind of says what comes into his mind.”
While filming, the cast received a surprise that Reese revealed on the red carpet, saying, “We were shooting in Washington D.C. and we thought, ‘Maybe we can get in [the White House]?’ so we called somebody and took a tour. And as we were on the tour we got a message that the President wanted to say hi and he had just seen ‘I Love You Man’ and he loved Paul’s performance, and it was really exciting.”
‘How Do You Know’ hits theaters Friday, December 17.
