Reese Witherspoon Reuniting With ‘Walk the Line’ Director

Reese Witherspoon is reuniting with James Mangold for Three Little Words, an adaptation of the memoir by Ashley Rhodes-Courter.

Witherspoon will star in the adaptation, which Mangold will direct.

Amanda Seyfried, who last starred in Les Miserables, is in talks to star opposite Witherspoon but no deal is done.

Mangold is producing with also producing with his partner, Cathy Konrad, via their Tree Line Films banner, marking a reunion of the team behind Walk the Line, for which Witherspoon won a best actress Oscar.

Jami Gertz (A Better Life) and her Lime Orchard Production banner are also producing.

Red Crown’s recent boarding of the project gave it momentum and principals Daniela Taplin Lundberg, Riva Marker and Daniel Crown are on board to produce. Red Crown’s Dover Shores Capital, a New York-based private equity firm, is fully financing the project, for which Good Universe will launch international sales at Cannes.

Words is described as a true-life Dickens-esque tale of a young Florida girl who entered the child welfare system when she was four.

The script, by Lewis Colick (The Fighter) and Michael Petroni (The Book Thief) centers on the relationship between the girl and the unpaid volunteer (Witherspoon) who discovers her nine years later. The volunteer must search for and convince the biological mother (Seyfried) to surrender her parental rights so the teen can begin a new life.

Konrad discovered the project early, optioning it in 2004 after it had won the New York Times Essay Contest.

The producers are hoping to move fast on the project and are eyeing a September start in Florida.

Red Crown produced the Julianne Moore-Steve Coogan drama What Maisie Knew and is developing with McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision an adaptation of Gitty Danveshari’s YA book series School of Fear.

Mangold is prepping for his July 26 release of Fox’s summer tentpole, The Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman.

For Witherspoon, the deal marks an involvement in her second movie project since her much publicized arrest. The actress is in talks to star opposite Keanu Reeves in Wayfare Entertainment’s sci-fi love drama Passengers. Passengers would shoot after Words, in the first quarter 2014.

Since Witherspoon’s April 19 arrest in Atlanta, numerous videos of the incident — her husband, CAA agent Jim Toth, was charged with a DUI — have made its way to the web. On May 2, the actress appeared on Good Morning America apologizing for her actions in an interview with George Stephanopoulos.

Witherspoon is repped by CAA, Management 360 and Hansen Jacobson. Mangold is repped by WME, Management 360 and Sloane Offer. Seyfried is repped by Innovative Artists and Frankfurt Kurnit.

Cannes: Reese Witherspoon Joining Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Inherent Vice’

All actors want to work with Paul Thomas Anderson and it’s no surprise he’s lining up a killer cast for his adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel Inherent Vice. I hear Reese Witherspoon is the latest marquee name to join Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson and Benicio Del Toro in the film. Book takes place in Los Angeles at the turn of the 1970s, as drug-fueled detective Larry “Doc” Sportello investigates the disappearance of an ex-girlfriend. Witherspoon re-teams with Phoenix, with whom she had a triumphant pairing in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line. Witherspoon won the Oscar for her portrayal of June Carter and Phoenix got an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Johnny Cash. Warner Bros will distribute Inherent Vice. She’s repped by CAA and Management 360.

Reese Witherspoon Finally Gets To Work With Paul Thomas Anderson As She Signs For ‘Inherent Vice’

It’s lost to the mists of time now, but when the project first emerged, there was talk that Reese Witherspoon was going to appear in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master,” as Peggy, the manipulative wife of Lancaster Dodd. For whatever reason (let’s hope it wasn’t a scheduling conflict with “This Means War”), it didn’t come to pass (Amy Adams took the role), but it seems like Witherspoon and PTA are still mutual admirers, as Deadline bring news that the actress has just signed on to the director’s new project, “Inherent Vice.”

The actress — who’s had a flurry of activity of late, after making tabloid headlines for her recent arrest — joins Joaquin Phoenix, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson and Kevin J Anderson as the signed cast so far. There’s no confirmation as to who she’ll playing, but our guess is that she’ll be Shasta Fay Hepworth, the ex girlfriend of Doc Sportello (Phoenix), who sets the plot in motion, though she could also be Hope Harlingen, the supposed widow of missing musician Coy. It’s also a “Walk The Line” reunion of sorts as Phoenix and Reese both took their excellent chemistry all the way to the Oscars (she won, he got nominated).

Anyway, it’s good news for Witherspoon, who’s course-correcting after a series of disappointments by working with the likes of Jeff Nichols (on current sleeper hit “Mud,”) Atom Egoyan (on “Devil’s Knot”) and PTA. Filming gets underway any day now, and Warner Bros will be releasing the picture, hopefully some time in 2014.

Martin Short and Jena Malone Join Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Inherent Vice’ (Exclusive)

Paul Thomas Anderson continues to cast his adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel “Inherent Vice,” as Martin Short and Jena Malone are the latest additions to the star-studded ensemble, TheWrap has learned.

Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to a request for comment, while a representative for Malone had no comment.

Short and Malone are expected to join Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro and Reese Witherspoon in the soft-boiled crime film, which follows a pot-smoking private detective named Doc Sportello (Phoenix) as he investigates a missing persons case that may have larger implications.

Malone will play a former drug addict who asks Sportello for help, while Short’s small role is being kept under wraps.

Warner Bros. is financing and distributing the comedic film, which Anderson is producing through his Ghoulardi Film Co. along with JoAnne Sellar and Daniel Lupi.

While it has been years since Short was last seen on the big screen, he did voice key characters in Tim Burton’s “Frankenweenie” and DreamWorks Animation’s “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” and he’s also set to star in the Public Theater’s one-night-only performance of “The Pirates of Penzance” in Central Park. He’s repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Malone will soon be seen playing Johanna Mason in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and she recently co-starred alongside Bill Paxton in the “Hatfields & McCoys” miniseries. She’s repped by the Gersh Agency and attorney Robert S. Wallerstein.

Fox 2000 Acquires Americanized ‘Get Her Off The Pitch’ For Reese Witherspoon

Fox 2000 has acquired Depth Of Field, a screenplay by J. Mills Goodloe that is an Americanized version of Get Her Off The Pitch, the 2009 bestselling memoir by Times Of London cultural critic Lynne Truss. Elizabeth Gabler bought it with the idea of shaping it as a star vehicle for Reese Witherspoon, who’ll produce it with Twilight Saga‘s Karen Rosenfelt and Bruna Papandrea.

Truss, once a self-described proud sports atheist, was sent on a lark by her editor to cover the World Cup. Her readers were amused, and Truss eventually spent four years covering major sporting events throughout Europe and America, writing humorous and somewhat academic essays. Along the way, she slowly became a convert, discovering the significance of sport, and how it affected her own life and relationships. Get Her Off The Pitch was never published in the U.S., but Goodloe discovered it in a bookstore while on a trip to Sydney. He transplanted Truss’ story to an American sport.

This seems like a good fit for Witherspoon, who has done well with fish-out-of-water pics from Legally Blonde to Sweet Home Alabama. It becomes another strong project she and Papandrea have set up to produce under their Pacific Standard banner at Fox. They include Gone Girl, the Gillian Flynn bestseller that I keep hearing will be David Fincher’s next film. Witherspoon just opened opposite Matthew McConaughey in the Jeff Nichols-directed Mud. Goodloe most recently adapted the Nicholas Sparks novel The Best Of Me for Warner Bros and director Michael Hoffman. Witherspoon is repped by CAA and Evelyn O’Neill at Management 360. Goodloe is repped by UTA and Eryn Brown at Management 360.

Reese Witherspoon in Talks to Join Keanu Reeves in Sci-Fi Love Story ‘Passengers’

Reese Witherspoon has entered into talks to star opposite Keanu Reeves in Passengers, a sci-fi love drama that Brian Kirk is directing for Wayfare Entertainment.

The script – Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the most recent draft – in which a starship transporting human cargo to a colony malfunctions, causing one passenger (Reeves) to prematurely thaw from a cryogenic slumber nearly a century before anyone else. Not wanting to be alone, he decides to wake up another passenger, a female.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that talks are in the early stages, but should a deal close, Witherspoon would play the female lead.

Reeves is producing the movie with Stephen Hamel and Ben Browning. Michael Maher is exec producing. The project is expected to be presented to buyers at Cannes.

A shoot in Montreal is being planned.

Witherspoon, who was arrested last month in Atlanta for disorderly conduct after her CAA agent husband was pulled over for a DUI, is making the rounds promoting her indie drama Mud, in which she stars with Matthew McConaughey. She next appears in Devil’s Knot, a true-life drama about the West Memphis Three.

The Passengers deal would mark Witherspoon’s first project since the arrest.

Witherspoon is repped by CAA, Management 360 and Hansen Jacobson.

Reese speaks about arrest: ‘One of those nights’

The actress spoke about the arrest for the first time on ‘GMA.’

Reese Witherspoon sat down with George Stephanopoulos for a live, Good Morning America interview Thursday, her first since her April 19 arrest in Atlanta. Her husband, Jim Toth, was charged with DUI. She was charged with disorderly conduct.

Getting right to the news, George asked the actress what happened.

“It’s one of those nights,” said Reese, 37. “We went out to dinner in Atlanta, had one too many glasses of wine. We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. And it’s just completely unacceptable. And we are so sorry and embarrassed. And we know better.”

Why not call a car service or a cab?

“Absolutely,” said the actress. “It was just poor judgment. And I think we made a mistake. It’s something that will absolutely never happen again. Just bad judgment.”

George didn’t let her off the hook there. He said that her statement to the police, “Do you know my name?” didn’t sound like the Reese Witherspoon we know and love.

She continued with her wide-eyed mea culpa.

“I agree. I have no idea what I was saying that night. I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked. I said all kinds of crazy things. I told him I was pregnant. I’m not pregnant! I said crazy things,” she said chuckling a little. “You only hear me laughing because I had no idea what I was talking about and I am so sorry. I was so disrespectful to him. I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better.”

Reese offered that said she had spoken to Atlanta police “yesterday” again to offer apologizes, saying there was no reason to be “disrespectful.”

George asked how she was talking to her kids about it.

“I have to say that’s the hardest part about it. Having to tell our kids,” said Reese, who is mom to Ava, 13; Deacon, 9; and Tennessee, who is seven months old. “And just embarrassed. You ahve to say when you make a mistake, you have to take responsibility. And we are taking responsibility and doing everything in our power to make it right. You just have to be honest with them. That was definitely the hardest part.”

Lessons learned?

“There were so many lessons learned. Absolutely. When a police officer tells you to stay in the car, you stay in the car,” she said, laughing. “I think I’ve played a lawyer so many times in movies, I think I am a lawyer — and clearly I’m not a lawyer. So, I learned a lot.”

They moved on to talk about her new movie, Mud.

Reese graces the cover of the new issue of UK Red magazine, with photos from her 2012 Elle magazine photoshoot alongside what seems to be a new interview. Check out the cover in our Gallery, and the interview below. I’ll be on the hunt for scans!

Reese Witherspoon New baby, new production company and two of the best roles of her career – Reese Witherspoon is at the top of her game. She talks ambition, inspiration and why her girlfriends keep her sane, with Rosamund Dean.

There are some actresses who are so adored on screen, you almost don’t want to meet them, in case the reality doesn’t live up to the fantasy. Reese Witherspoon is one. This is the woman who taught us the ‘bend and snap’ in Legally Blonde, played Rachel’s little sister in Friends, and won an Oscar as resilient, conflicted June Carter in Walk The Line.

Sitting in the bar of the Beverly Hills Hotel where we are to meet for afternoon tea, I wonder: how can the real Reese Witherspoon possibly compete? Then, she strides in, all impenetrably dark sunglasses and stylish black sweater thrown over a red Carven dress.

For a second, she looks intimidating, but then the glasses come off, that megawatt smile comes on and I relax. She actually is the charming southern belle we know and love, her conversation peppered with ‘y’know’ and ‘y’all’.

‘Yeah, people definitely hug me a lot, and hand me their babies,’ she says of her girl-next-door image. ‘But it’s better than people throwing stuff at me, right? I’m always met with smiles.’

And – brilliantly – she counts some of our other favourite actresses among her closest friends. She recently enjoyed a girlie beach weekend in Mexico with Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore.

‘They’re just as charismatic and fun as you would imagine,’ she laughs. ‘It’s nice to hang with Drew because we both just had babies and we can support each other. And Cameron is such a funny, bright gal. She’s an incredibly sharp business-minded woman, but she disguises that side of herself. It’s her secret alter ego. It’s important to nurture your friendships and have fun because you can’t be a good mom unless you’re taking care of yourself.’

Witherspoon is incredibly family-focused, mentioning her husband and children affectionately and often. She also has an admirably good relationship with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe – father to 13-year-old Ava and nine-year-old Deacon – from whom she separated in 2006. She married talent agent Jim Toth in 2011 and their son, Tennessee, was born in September last year.

The tabloids made much of Barrymore and Witherspoon’s post-baby bodies on the Mexico trip. That level of scrutiny would send most of us over the edge, but she is diplomatic. ‘Well, there were lots of girls on that trip, it wasn’t all actresses. But we’re the ones who get photographed in our bathing suits,’ she rolls her eyes. ‘Great.’

She’s used to the attention, of course. Witherspoon has been landing leading roles for over two decades and, although she remains best known for comedy, her career includes everything from psychological thrillers (American Psycho) to period drama (Vanity Fair).

This year, she stars in two roles that are a world away from Legally Blonde. First up, she is the beautiful-but-damaged love of Matthew McConaughey’s titular fugitive in the wonderful coming-of-age story, Mud (released this month), then the mother of a murdered child in autumn’s true-life drama, Devil’s Knot, with Colin Firth and Stephen Moyer.

Both films are set in Arkansas – part of the draw for Witherspoon, having grown up in neighbouring Tennessee. ‘Mud is a story about where I’m from,’ she nods. ‘I grew up in that environment, on the water. My brother and I would spend all day tinkering with mechanical stuff and running around. The southern parts of America have their own dialect and sensibility and [writer/director] Jeff Nichols understands that because he’s from Arkansas.’

The film follows two boys who discover Mud hiding out and try to reunite him with estranged girlfriend Juniper. Jeff Nichols wanted Witherspoon for the role from the offset.

‘When I originally cast Reese, I told her I needed her because Juniper is spoken about through the entire film, and I needed the audience to recognise her importance as soon as she walked across screen,’ he tells me over email. ‘You have to believe Mud when he speaks about her character and you must believe he would go to such lengths to be with her. Reese commands this type of attention.’

McConaughey agrees: ‘Mud completely deifies Juniper, and there is no way she can live up to that.’ Interestingly, he adds: ‘Reese was the person I pictured as Juniper before we even began.’

It’s funny to see her sipping tea in the hotel’s very swish Polo Lounge, when her character in Mud is all Daisy Dukes and tattoos. She grins at the mention of McConaughey: ‘My husband is his agent, so I knew him already. He’s one of the world’s greatest storytellers. When he talks, you just want to listen. He’s got that wonderful syrupy Texas voice.’

Surely somebody somewhere is writing a romantic comedy in which these two can star together? It makes perfect sense. In a genre of many bad films, McConaughey and Witherspoon both know what makes a good one. Well, most of the time.

‘It really depends on how much you want the main characters to get together,’ says Witherspoon. ‘I can watch Bridget Jones any day of the week. And When Harry Met Sally, or Sleepless In Seattle. Any Nora Ephron film, basically.’

In fact, Ephron has been an enormous influence on Witherspoon’s life. Shortly before the beloved writer and director died in June last year, they had been working together on a biopic of American jazz singer Peggy Lee, which was to star Witherspoon.

‘Nora became a dear friend and gave me so much advice – about love, about work, everything,’ says Witherspoon, who says she feels very lucky to have received advice directly from the writer whose books inspired so many women. ‘I quote her books all the time, whether I’m talking to my daughter or my mother; I’m always thinking about Nora’s words. She really cared about helping other women.’

The idea of women supporting each other is crucial to Witherspoon. She has been approached to be the face of countless beauty brands, but chose Avon because of their work with women’s initiatives, like breast cancer charities and domestic violence campaigns. When I ask if she’s a feminist, she doesn’t miss a beat: ‘Absolutely, of course.’

And then reels off stats without pausing for breath. ‘Even now, in America, a woman makes 87 cents to every dollar a man makes. If you’re a black woman, you make 75 cents. You’re a Latin woman, it’s 67 cents. And this is doing the same job. There is enormous inequality in pay and inequality in the workplace to this day.’

These days it’s hard to talk about women at work without mentioning Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and her much-discussed book, Lean In. Sandberg’s mantra is one that Witherspoon firmly believes in: women should put themselves forward at work, stop putting themselves down and stop worrying about being ‘ambitious’ (a euphemism for ‘aggressive’ when talking about a woman).

‘As women, we shrug and smile and say, “Oh… me?” because it makes it socially acceptable for us to be successful,’ says Witherspoon. ‘But there is a balance between being an arrogant jerk and being someone who is proud of their accomplishments. We need to let successful women show off and support them. Because men don’t spend any time putting themselves down. They don’t waste their breath. You have to be the best version of yourself and, if that means you have to be a bit self-promoting, then it’s okay. It really is. Because who’s going to believe in you more than yourself? Other than, maybe, your mother.’

She cites an example: her Academy Award for Walk The Line, which now sits proudly in her living room ‘wedged between some macaroni art from Ava when she was little and a sculpture that Deacon made’. But there was a time when she kept it in the bedroom because she didn’t want to show off. Only when a friend told her she shouldn’t hide her light under a bushel did she move it into the front room. ‘Because Lord knows every day is not a success,’ she says with a wry smile, ‘every year is not a success. You have to celebrate the good.’ And Witherspoon has a lot to celebrate.

With such a long and varied career, at just 37, she is something of an industry veteran. With nothing to prove, she’s ready to take some risks. Having dabbled in producing over the years, she has formed a new company, Pacific Standard Films, with friend Bruna Papandrea. They have several projects in the pipeline, including an adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, and Cheryl Strayed’s memoir, Wild, on which she has enlisted Nick Hornby to write the screenplay.

‘I’ve gained a lot of confidence as a businesswoman over the years,’ she says. ‘I feel like I know what I’m doing now, and also that other people know that I know what I’m doing. I’m very driven.’ She scrunches her face up in a look of determination that reminds me of Tracy Flick, the superkeen high-school presidential candidate she played in 1999’s political satire Election, her breakthrough role.

‘Yeah, I really like to have a task or a goal,’ she laughs. So work is going well and life in the Witherspoon household sounds golden, but refreshingly normal. She tells me about the rush to get everyone to school on time with all the requisite book bags and guitars (clearly, in LA, kids take a guitar to school).

She hopes her eldest, Ava, will go to university, but admits it’s difficult to argue her case when she got into the prestigious Stanford but left after a year when her career took off. ‘She’d better get her butt to college, basically!’ she laughs. ‘But right now we just have to make it through junior high. It is not easy being 13. I’m reliving it through her and every time you don’t get invited to a birthday party, it’s the most horrible feeling.’

With her solid family life, it’s easy to forget that Witherspoon has been through some really tough times in the past few years, including the divorce and time as a single parent. It was at those times that her female friends really stepped up.

‘Oh my gosh, I don’t know what I would have done so many times in my life if I hadn’t had my girlfriends,’ she says. ‘They have literally gotten me up out of bed, taken my clothes off, put me in the shower, dressed me, said, “Hey, you can do this,” put my high heels on and pushed me out the door! But you do have to work at friendships as much as you would any relationship. So, even when I’m really busy, we always manage to find each other on Saturday nights for a drink.’

Witherspoon is great company, laughing easily. But the biggest laugh of the afternoon comes when I remark that when it comes to balancing her family and career, she seems frighteningly together and on top of everything.

‘Hahahahaaah,’ she exclaims, with a look that says it certainly doesn’t feel that way. ‘Things have got to give all over the place. Ever since I had the baby, I can’t remember anything. Seriously, this child stole my brain. I’m sure I’m losing friendships over forgetting to get back to people. But you can’t keep up with everything. I’ve got a 13-year-old, a nine-year-old and a baby. It’s like CNN ticker tape running through my mind at all times [puts on robotic voice]: “Where is Ava? She’s okay. Good. Where is Deacon? He’s okay. Good. Where is Tennessee? Is he okay? Yes. Great. Back to Ava…” It doesn’t stop.’

One thing that clears her head is building boards on Pinterest. Yes, really, she is completely obsessed with the pinboard-creating social networking site.

‘Obsessed,’ she repeats, firmly. ‘My husband says, “Are you buying those things?” And I’m like, “No, I’m just putting pictures of them on my electronic pinboard.” Then I get to organise them: so this is my dream kitchen, these are my favourite handbags, these are hotels I want to visit, jewellery I really need to buy… I have a whole board of monogrammed accessories, I like to put my name on everything.’

She waves her Breton-striped iPhone case around as an example. It is emblazoned with ‘Reese’ on the back. ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with me,’ she says with a helpless shrug. ‘It’s expensive and I don’t need it, but it’s got my name on it!’

Our afternoon tea is winding up. She has ignored the tower of sandwiches in favour of a bowl of berries, but then so would you if you were photographed on the beach right after giving birth. It seems a love of tea is not Witherspoon’s only British a affection. She talks enthusiastically about Downton Abbey and then professes a love of Sharon Horgan’s dark BBC Three comedy, Pulling.

‘Sharon is so brilliant,’ she enthuses. ‘She finds comedy in the mundane, and how absurd everyday life can be. She and I are actually working together at the moment.’

Whaaaat? A Horgan/Witherspoon co-production? ‘Yes, it’s a Sharispoon… a Reesegan… a Horgaspoon!’ she exclaims, delighted with her portmanteau. ‘It’s The Top Secret Untitled Horgaspoon Project.’ We can’t wait.

Unless Reese speaks further on the issue then this will be the only post we make about this. We hope you will respect Reese’s right to privacy at this time.

“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.” – Reese Witherspoon

Looks like Cameron Diaz is about to finalise a deal for Sex Tape, a role Reese was previously rumoured to be attached to (previous articles here and here).

Cameron Diaz in Early Talks to Make ‘Sex Tape’ With Jason Segel

The trio behind Sony’s surprise hit “Bad Teacher” is chalking up a reunion, as Cameron Diaz is in early talks to reteam with director Jake Kasdan and co-star Jason Segel on the studio’s comedy “Sex Tape.”

Escape Artists is producing the movie, which concerns a married couple who take a night off from their kids and decide to spice up their love life by making a sex tape. When they wake up the next morning, the tape is missing, prompting them to figure out who took it and how to get it back.

Diaz had been rumored as a possible female lead more than a year ago, but negotiations are now underway and expected to lead to a deal.

Kate Angelo wrote the script on spec, and the film will be produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch of Escape Artists.

Diaz will next be seen opposite Colin Firth in CBS Films’ remake of “Gambit” as well as Ridley Scott’s “The Counselor,” which also stars Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt. She’ll soon begin filming Nick Cassavetes’ comedy “The Other Woman” with Leslie Mann and Kate Upton.

“Bad Teacher” grossed $216 million worldwide on a modest production budget and spawned a CBS pilot that sees Ari Graynor taking over the title role.

Diaz is repped by CAA and manager Rick Yorn.

Fox Finds ‘The Engagements’ with Reese Witherspoon
- March 20th 2013

Fox 2000 has acquired the rights to the novel “The Engagements” and is in negotiations with Reese Witherspoon to come on board to produce.

If the deal goes through, Witherspoon would produce through her Pacific Standard banner along with her producing partner Bruna Papandrea. Pacific Standard brought the book to Fox.

Film is based on J. Courtney Sullivan novel, to be published in June, the story tells a deeply romantic story that follows a diamond engagement ring from the 1930s to the present, connecting five very different relationships in surprising and unexpected ways.

It is unknown whether the adaptation will be developed as a starring vehicle for Witherspoon given how many projects she is already producing.

Since starting her production shingle, Witherspoon has been especially keen on producing popular book adaptations.

Witherspoon was quick to jump on as a producer of the New York Times Best-seller “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn, which was such a hot property that David Fincher has attached himself to direct. She is repped by CAA and Management 360.

Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Reynolds Out, Amy Adams & Christoph Waltz In For ‘Big Eyes,’ Tim Burton To Direct

So, where do we start with “Big Eyes”? Well, let’s go with a brief history lesson. Developing for at least six years if not longer, the project comes from Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (“Ed Wood,” “The People Vs. Larry Flynt,” “Man On The Moon”) and with two big lead roles, over the years Thomas Haden Church and Kate Hudson became attached, and in 2012 Ryan Reynolds and Reese Witherspoon were linked, with Tim Burton slated to produce the effort that would serve as the screenwriters’ directorial debut. But it looks Burton is going to take it all for himself with a pretty killer leading duo.

Deadline reports that Burton will direct the movie, that is now set up at The Weinstein Company, in what looks like a welcome 180 for the helmer, and something that’s much more of a small scale domestic drama. The film will tell the true story of married couple Walter and Margaret Keane, who became art world phenomenons in the 1950s and 1960s thanks to their paintings of large-eyed children. However, when they split up, a legal battle ensued, with Walter trying to take credit for paintings which were actually done by his wife. But when it came to a showdown in count, where they actually faced off canvas vs. canvas, Margaret emerged victorious while Walter tried to feign a pain in his arm.

There’s no word yet if this will indeed be next Burton — he’s got a few options — but this kind of casting doesn’t come along everyday, we presume this is on the front cooker for the filmmaker. It has been awhile since we’ve had something to truly be excited about from Burton, but this looks like something that could be genuinely challenging and take him far away from his usual wheelhouse of tropes and tricks. So, fingers crossed.

After adding more photos from this year’s Oscars, I realised I still had a ton from the 2011 ceremony still to add, so have now done that. Almost 200 additional HQ photos from the 2011 Oscars red carpet, show and press room are now in the Gallery, plus all of the Vanity Fair After Party pictures have been replaced with HQs as well as a few more being added. And on top of that, we have screencaptures from the ‘red carpet’ (backstage) interview Reese gave to the official Oscars broadcaster. (I don’t remember who sent us these screencaptures, so if it was you please get in touch so I can credit you!).

Reese’s look at this Oscars is without a doubt one of my all-time favourites of hers – she looks so modern, sexy yet charming, and I love everything about it! Not to mention I love seeing her pose with her American Psycho co-star Christian Bale – they are such different actors, in terms of their career choices and screen presence, and I get a little fangirl kick seeing them together

There are a lot of fantastic photos in here for you to browse through, so jump on in and enjoy the Reese goodness – it won’t disappoint…!
