As earlier reported Reese was in Brazil yesterday as the Avon Global Ambassador. The event was “Speak Out Against Domestic Violence,” a joint campaign launched in 2004 by the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and the Avon cosmetics company. She looked ultra pretty in a classy navy dress, hoop earrings and blue heels. The event was held at the World Trade Center hotel in Sao Paulo and lasted one hour, Reese highlighted the campaign’s aims in Latin America, including the sale of bracelets which is financing the charity. She flew back to the United States yesterday shortly after arriving on Wednesday. I’d like to thank Marcela for many picture contributions and translations!
Here is a news report regarding the press conference.
“One woman in three in the world is affected by domestic violence. There isn’t a woman in the world that doesn’t have a friend or a partner who’s actually experiencing some sort of violence against them, so I think although domestic violence hasn’t happened to me personally, I certainly know women who are dealing with this struggle every day.” - Reese Witherspoon
In a symbolic gesture, she gave one of the bracelets to Maria da Penha Maia Fernandes, a Brazilian woman who has come to represent domestic violence in her home country after she was left a paraplegic by her violent husband.
After a 20-year legal battle, Brazil in 2006 named a law after Maia Fernandes that recognizes domestic violence against women as a human rights violation, and extends a number of preventive and punitive measures as well as assistance.
According to UNIFEM, one Brazilian woman in five suffers violence at the hands of a man, and there were an estimated 2.1 million women in the country who each year are victims of domestic violence.
Domestic violence, Witherspoon said, “affects women who are famous, who are not famous, women who have money, women who have no money. This is an issue that crosses all boundaries and it certainly affects everyone.”

Check out the poster for Four Christmases courtesy of Tyler. I smell a trailer coming up soon! Reese plays Kate in the film, which opens on November 26th.
When upscale, happily unmarried San Francisco couple Kate and Brad find themselves socked in by fog on Christmas morning, their exotic vacation plans morph into the family-centric holiday they had, until now, gleefully avoided. Out of obligation—and unable to escape—they trudge to not one, not two, but four relative-choked festivities, increasingly mortified to find childhood fears raised, adolescent wounds reopened… and their very future together uncertain. As Brad counts the hours to when he can get away from their parents, step-parents, siblings and an assortment of nieces and nephews, Kate is starting to hear the ticking of a different kind of clock. And by the end of the day, she is beginning to wonder if their crazy families’ choices are not so crazy after all.

Avon Global Ambassador, Reese Witherspoon, will travel to Sao Paulo, Brazil to celebrate the success of the company’s first-ever global fundraising product, the Women’s Empowerment Bracelet, which has sold 1.5 million since launching in March.
Reese will be joined by female luminaries, Nilceia Freire, Brazil’s Federal Secretary for Women Policies, Ana Falu, UNIFEM Regional Director for the Southern Cone, and bio-chemist and domestic violence survivor, Maria da Penha.
The Avon Women’s Empowerment Bracelet was created to raise awareness about the need to speak out against the violence that affects women globally. In support of this mission, proceeds from the Women’s Empowerment Bracelet will go to the Avon Empowerment Fund, which will contribute to the UNIFEM-managed UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women. The first $500,000 from bracelet sales have been matched in 2008 by the Avon Foundation for a total donation of $1 million for new grants by the UN Trust Fund, representing the single-largest one-year corporate contribution to-date. Additional funds raised will support local domestic violence programs in each country Avon is located.

The first stills from Four Christmases have debuted courtesy of Entertainment Weekly! The fall movie preview (with Harry Potter on the cover) feature the film. Reese looks uber cute in the pics!
Four Christmases
Nov. 26
Reese Witherspoon, Vince Vaughn
This holiday romp — starring Witherspoon and Vaughn as a couple obliged to celebrate Christmas with each of their divorced parents — is Reese’s first romcom since 2005’s Just Like Heaven. And in case having her back in high spirits isn’t gift enough, the movie also marks the feature-directing debut of Seth Gordon, who made last year’s terrific The King of Kong.

I regret to announce that I have decided to leave the staff of Glamour Reese Witherspoon. Before anyone freaks out, let me just say that Mycah will continue the site as it is - GRW is not closing down! It is only me who is stepping down. The site is not going anywhere. Mycah has been without internet connection for a few months but will be back with updates soon.
I have been a fan of Reese for over a decade and running the site since 2005 so this is not a decision that I came to lightly. In fact, I have been thinking about it for a good while. While I still adore Reese Witherspoon and will continue to follow her career, perhaps occasionally report news here and stop by at the forum, I do not have the motivation to continue running the site. I suppose this mainly sources from the fact that Reese has been acting in movies very little lately. While I sincerely respect the fact that she prefers to spend time with her family, out of the spotlight, it is not super-motivating for me to continue running the site. I know that we have Four Christmases to look forward to but I am personally not very much into romcoms and I would prefer to see Reese work on something more substancial and challenging a la Walk the Line.
Who knows, I may very well be back in the future if things change but for now, I feel I am not doing justice on the site when I have so little motivation - and time - to update.
See you around!
